Chapter 17. Fools Move

His head leans down to rest against my stomach, his arms wrapping around my body.

“You know I love you, right?”

Looking at him, confused, I nod. “Of course, I do. You love me just as much as I love you.” Smiling at him, I feel uneasy. Why is he asking me this?

“I’m sorry. Yesterday, the lads were talking about the next mission and I said I would join them.”

My face runs cold, the blood draining from it. He can’t be serious? Why would he? Why would he even consider it? What about me and the girls? Trying to speak, the words just won’t come out. My eyes begin to gather the wetness of my silent cry while his eyes are watching me.

“I will be fine, Alena. I promise.”

Shaking my head at him, I can’t believe he would do this.

“You promised last time, and look what happened! We were close to losing you forever. The girls would never have known you. Right now, it would be Liam sat here not you. It would be him being their dad not you.”
