Chapter 48
Standing, I try cooking sausage and bacon. It just doesn’t go well at all. I feel myself giving up. I put toast in the toaster. I switch it on. This I can cook. Jackson walks down the stairs, looking intrigued.
“You’re cooking?” He looks across at me, humour on his face as he looks at the mess I have made. He can see I failed.
“Failing, so here, have some toast.” Walking over I put the plate down. Sitting, he eats it. At least I can make toast.
“So, why do you never seem to be at work?” I am interested; he seems always to be away from it.
“I don't need to be. I have a lot of people there. It runs smoothly. Every now and then, I go in for meetings. I get calls about issues, but mostly, the managers do a good enough job.” Nodding, I understand what he means. It’s just strange he hasn’t been there. I expected him to be; it is also weird. I haven’t seen a single one of his friends. Is he hiding me?
