Chapter 15
Mary kicked her high heels off her achy feet as soon as she walked into her townhouse, let herself into her room, and tossed her bag onto the bed. She was tired and scared. Her brain was dulled, disoriented by the morbid train of thoughts that raced through her mind.
The interior was dark and somewhat gloomy, with only a dully lit lamp to offer illumination. It certainly wasn’t the best accommodation for her to stay tonight, considering how terrified she was by her encounter with that stranger. Karen suggested she sleep at her house that night, but she refused to.
She trudged into the bathroom and turned the hot water on in the sink. A shower would feel good but she was too tired to stand.
She washed her face and brushed her hair. A glance in the mirror told her she looked tired. Hollow-eyed and worried.
