‘Oh Selena, why did you scream? Are you hurt? Did something happen?’ Liam asked her. His voice was like a tall glass of cold lemonade on a really hot summer afternoon, or a mug of steaming chocolate on a stormy night.

The question registered in her head later. She raised her head from where it had been conveniently nestled against his chest. She tried to untangle herself from him, but it seemed Liam was having none of it.

Selena sighed before she spoke in a low voice, even though Liam heard her clearly.

‘I saw you fall land from a fall, and I got really scared. I thought something had happened to you.’ Selena gave her honest answer to Liam, who physically deflated. She still thought of him as a mere mortal, not as a beta werewolf.
