Chapter 158

‘You can’t save me, she-wolf.’ The words echoed in my head as I stared into Alex’s sad eyes. He looked convinced that he was beyond saving and that seemed to scare me a bit. He was too sure.

“But at least let me try,” I begged him. 

He scoffed. “What are you even going to do? Bring my wife back?” He rose to his feet. “For now, Lara, just let me try to figure out the journey I’m on emotionally. I will go back to my pack…eventually.” 

“Okay.” I did not push him. And he did have a point. What was I going to do to save him? I was not a superhero. I did not have special powers. I was just a she-wolf that cared deeply for people.

And apparently, that was called a hero mentality; wanting to help everyone to the point where sometimes I didn’t even regard myself.
