Chapter 58

"Do you want me to turn off the lights now?" Nico asked quietly, avoiding a confrontational tone.  

"Do as you please," Celine replied coldly as she sat on the bed, removing her earrings and bracelets.  

After turning off the lights, Nico lay down on the floor, staring at the dark ceiling. Meanwhile, Celine lay down on the bed, her back to Nico.  

However, Celine's eyes could not be closed. Maria's words from this afternoon kept ringing in her head.  

"She did it for your safety..."  

Her heart actually understood, but the ego and wounds she still carried made her reluctant to show her soft side.  

Downstairs, Nico couldn't sleep either. He knew his presence in this room was just a formality for Calvin, not because Celine really wanted him. But he accepted all of that.
