Chapter 62
"But what about Calvin?" Nico asked, his tone of voice full of indecision. "I can't leave him, Mom. He needs me."
Maria looked at her son with a loving but stern look. "Calvin does need his father, Nico. But, you also have to think about yourself. If Celine doesn't value your existence, why would you stay? You'll never be happy like this."
Nico was silent, digesting his mother's words. Part of him knew she had a point. However, he couldn't ignore the fact that he still loved Celine, even though she treated him coldly.
"If I leave, I'm afraid Calvin will hate me," Nico said finally.
Maria sighed again, this time in a softer tone. "Calvin won't hate you, Nico. He's too small to understand everything right now. But one day, he'll understand that you did what was best for yourself and for him."
Nico looked down, his hands clasped tightly around his knees. "I don't know, Mom. Part of me wants to hold on, try to make things go back to the way they used to be.
