Chapter 5. Between the Cross and the Sword

Hope's POV

"Hey, watch out, my neck was there," I said, okay, now I would surely be in trouble. I managed to answer Alpha Julian and he always warned me that the others wouldn't be as benevolent as he was, because, after all, that's how our pack worked. "You can't accuse me of something Selene did."

Did I instantly acknowledge my mistake? No one would dare stand between me and the Prince, and I knew it.

'I think Alpha Julian will kill me if I don't die now.'

Another burst of energy and this time I had to use much more than the first to dodge. Something I learned a couple of years ago, I had a wolf gene. It meant that sometimes I could channel this mystical energy and use it to my advantage, it was something that tired me, physically and mentally and I didn't use it much.

The prince gave me no room to continue, he knew what I was doing, and I could see it in his gaze. Well, it was true, but that didn't mean I would be completely unprotected.

"A crime, for a crime..." I whispered, and in the next instant, I felt the Prince's left hand on my throat.

"I die and so do you" My voice was serious.

So far it had been difficult, but my move was not something unthinking, I had done it a few times before, I knew that the Prince would try to hurt me again and instead of using the rest of my energy to run away, I used it to attack, the curved dagger has many advantages, one of them is to pass between the ribs and hit vital organs.

"Silver with wolfsbane" I spoke as I pressed the point wedged into his chest a little harder, the smell of fresh blood spread.

"You are full of tricks, but do you think you are fast enough? Drop the blade." I listened to the command, but the only thing that happened was that I cut a little more.

"Let go of my neck." If out of everything that had happened today I hadn't been surprised or had drawn attention, now I had. Because everyone knew that his order had no effect at all.

The only people who could use that tone on me and have any effect were my Alpha and his son.

"How?" I listened to the question asked by the Prince and cut a little deeper, I could feel the tip of the blade vibrate slightly as my opponent's heart pulsed.

"Because there is nothing inside me to obey your order, I don't have a wolf, remember?" I replied simply, it was a half-truth. Auras could be easily perceived by other beings and when done by powerful beings, it was as if your soul trembled and you were compelled to accept that order. "What now? Will we have two bodies to be buried?"

"No." I felt the prince's hand release my neck and pulled the blade from his chest.

"If Julian had told me you were going to try to kill me on my first day, I wouldn't have believed it." I smiled in a corner, looking at the prince's face. I'm tired, I knew my body couldn't hold out much longer. "You may continue your training, Hope Black. I will surely still hear from you."

"Thank you," I replied and bowed and closed my eyes, letting myself be enveloped by the darkness.

Dylan's POV

Hope didn't have a wolf, but she could channel the energy she had, almost like Alpha's wolf does and when the thank you came from her lips, I moved quickly, holding her hips.

'She's ours. She knocked the Prince, the Prince Regent!'

'Yeah I know, and so does everyone else, now be quiet Sin'

"Can I take her to the infirmary?" I asked Prince Erick who merely agreed with his head.

I took my Mate in my arms and started walking towards the exit portal of the arena, instinctively I felt her getting closer to me. The bond of destiny was something almost undeniable.

'I will make her accept us' I spoke to my wolf who was grunting in my head and immediately her temper changed.

'Yes, yes. There couldn't be anyone more perfect for us.'

'Well, you know my father won't like that at all. He wants me to be with a pureblood. He's even already promised me to Sophia.'

'Well, that's not going to happen! I hate her and that she-wolf of hers.

'I know, Sin, I don't like her either. But let's see if he knows that even though she has no wolf she managed to reach the First Prince, and he'll change his mind.'

'And if he doesn't?'

'Then we'll find another way.'

When I arrived at the infirmary there was already a nurse waiting for me. Probably the First Prince had already called them.

"I'm Nara, come with me." The nurse introduced herself and then started walking and soon we were in a simple room, I put Hope on the bed and waited. Soon they started to clean her arm which was hurt and passed some ointments and I noticed that the skin started to close up.

"Are you Mates?" Nara asked me and I nodded positively.

"Has she accepted you yet?"

"No, we haven't had much time to talk." I wanted to stay with Hope all the time, but I know she'll avoid me and avoid touching me, she'll run away from the bond. If she has done it once, she would do it again.

"Now we just need to wait for the medicine and the medicine to take effect."

I nodded my head to Nara, my eyes would not leave that female body lying between white fabrics, her expression was of someone tormented, tense and I knew this, for I have my demons.

I approached the bed and put my hand against her forehead, pushing the tip of her colored hair away. I noticed that her expression calmed down.

"I won't let you get away"
