The Alpha Meeting was in full swing when Chelsea finally delivered her news: she’d found two other humans-turned-werewolves ready to testify against Cal and his pack. With all six Elders—hand-picked by the moon goddess—watching, Cal didn’t stand a chance.

“Alphas, please, quiet,” Richard said, flanked by Elder Jonah, the council’s head. Murmurs died. “We’re here to decide whether to stay neutral toward Blackridge or declare them rivals. Last year we withdrew neutrality; today you may reverse that if you wish.”

One by one, each Alpha stood and announced their choice. Those who turned rivals stayed rivals; four of six neutrals switched to rivals. Only two remained neutral. “Ten rivals, two neutral,” Richard concluded. Jonah nodded.
