I slammed the bedroom door so hard the frame rattled, my backpack hitting the floor with a thud.
Tears burned my eyes, hot and unstoppable, spilling down my cheeks as I sank onto the bed, face buried in my hands.

I’d heard them downstairs, Mom’s voice sharp, cutting into Adrian like a knife, his low, defensive murmurs trying to smooth it over.
