Chapter 63. Coughing Fits

I couldn’t sleep, not when my lungs were on fire.

I thought the coughing fits would end after I got out of bed, but it didn’t. it worsened and I was surprised when Kian came into the room in his briefs. my fits must have rid him of sleep.

He pulled me into his arms and patted my back gently. It subsided but I was still coughing, but gently this time.

He cupped my face, forcing me to look at him.

“Hey, it’s going to be okay. Now breathe.”

I went through the breathing exercises with him and felt a lot better.

“Better?”

I nod.

He sighs. “Your skin is a bit clammy, so I’m going to take off your gown and replace it with something lighter, okay?”

I nodded again, giving him permission. Locking his gaze with mine, he grabbed the hem of my gown and tugged it upwards and over my head. I stood bare before him, squirming under his close scrutiny.

His fingers splayed over my belly and I know he can see the little stretch marks there. I
