While Mom disappears into the bathroom, I get some clothes from her closet knock on the door, and open it. Mom is standing in the shower with her clothes on. I carefully help her out of her clothes and get her to sit on a stool.

I wash her hair and body before helping her dry off and get dressed. I put her to bed and threw her wet clothes in the washing machine with a few other items of clothing. Rosi smiles and does the rest. While Georg is on the phone, I sit next to Mom's bed and read a book that is on her nightstand.

I hear hurried footsteps and then Dad is standing in the doorway, his hair is disheveled and he looks really out of sorts. I put the book aside and quietly got up, leaving her alone. Georg and I sit outside on the terrace, drinking wine and looking out into the night.

When Dad comes downstairs he looks at us and says, "Go back, get some sleep. I'm staying here." I finish my glass and put it in the kitchen with my bro
