Aramis parked the car and turned to me. His deadly serious expression reflected his voice as he said, "I would never have married you if you were a so-called pawn in chess. You would not sleep in my bed either. I would never have given you the hut and I certainly would not have taken you to my parents' house."
These were all very good arguments. It sounded logical and I could have drawn the conclusion myself. Nevertheless, I had to ask for safety reasons. It was always nice to hear the words spoken.
"So no, Ariela, I'm not sacrificing you. I rejected this plan at first. But when you think about it, you realize that it's an easy way to get information."
That was it. I just had to talk to Enno. And a conversation probably wouldn't kill me, at least I wanted to remain optimistic.
I nodded slowly and replied, "Ok, thanks." It was probably stupid to say thank you for not wanting to sacrifice you. But it still felt right.
