Mason’s POV

I closed the door softly behind me as I stepped into my room, the weight of the silence settling around me. Mason’s face lingered in my mind, his odd behavior gnawing at my thoughts.

He had always been reliable, loyal…so why had he rejected my offer to take a week off? He had brushed it off too easily, as if he wasn’t interested in taking a break, which didn’t add up.

Mason always valued time off, even if only for a short while. Something was wrong, I could feel it in my gut.

I walked over to the window, staring out at the view of the beach. The waves crashed against the shore, the sound soothing, but my mind was far from calm.

I had to figure out what was bothering Mason. I had known him for eight years now, and in all that time, he had never given me a reason to doubt him.
