Maddy’s POV
Layla smiled, but I couldn’t bring myself to look at him. My mind was still reeling, my heart beating fast with the weight of unspoken questions.
Whatever this was, I had a feeling it was only the beginning of a greater disaster.
I sat stiffly at the dining table, my back straight, my hands folded in my lap, trying to appear composed. But inside, I was a mess.
The fork I held in my hand trembled slightly, and I hadn’t taken a single bite of the lavish meal spread out before me. The tension in the air was suffocating, at least for me.
