Layla’s POV
But when I glance over at him, he’s still watching the screen, his expression relaxed. He doesn’t seem to notice the way my chest tightens every time I think about Maddy, or the way my heart aches in her absence.
The truth is, I don’t know what to do anymore. I don’t know how to move forward without her.
Every day feels like a struggle, like I’m just going through the motions, trying to fill the empty spaces but never quite succeeding.
I’m here, physically present, but mentally and emotionally, I’m somewhere else entirely.
Jason clears his throat, pulling me from my thoughts. “You want to talk about it?” he asks softly, his voice full of concern.
I’m surprised by the question. He’s been giving me space, respecting my silence, but now, it’s like he’s finally breaking through. He wants to know what’s going on inside my head. He wants to help.
