Maddie's POV

Even if it was the hardest thing I had ever done.

I stood by the door, watching as Layla disappeared into the bathroom, the excitement still radiating from her every step. 

She was so full of life, so ready for tonight, and for a moment, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy. Not because I wanted a date, but because she had this hope, this unwavering belief that everything would go perfectly, that this time, Mr. Handsome would show up and stay. 

I just wished I could share that same optimism, but the gut feeling I had wouldn't leave me.

I sat down on Layla's bed, my thoughts swirling around me. 

I tried to push them away, but they kept coming back…memories of Logan, of how he had walked out of Layla’s life when she needed him the most. And now, he was back. 

It didn’t sit right with me. I couldn’t shake the fear that history might repeat itself, and Layla would be left broken once again.
