Logan's POV

Layla laughed. “I didn’t know you’d be here either! This is awesome!”

I swallowed hard, my heart pounding in my chest. I could feel Maddie’s gaze on me, cold and piercing. I knew exactly what she was thinking. 

She didn’t trust me…she never would, not after everything I did. And honestly, I couldn’t blame her.

I tried to look away, to focus on anything else, but her eyes were locked on me. She knew what kind of man I was. 

She knew the darkness that followed me, the chaos I brought into Layla’s life. Seeing her now, I realized how stupid I’d been to think I could escape my past.

Layla didn’t notice the tension between us. She was too busy talking, her voice cheerful as she invited Maddie and her date to join us. Maddie hesitated, her eyes never leaving me.

I felt exposed, vulnerable. It was the same look she gave me the last time we crossed paths…a look that said she saw right through me.
