When Layla was taken, you searched for a bit, but the moment Isabella told you she had a son for you, you stopped looking for Layla. 

And now you want me to believe you really searched for me?"

I opened my mouth, but no words came out.

Because he was right.

I had given up.

I had let myself be controlled, manipulated, fooled…by Isabella, by my own fears, by my own damn mistakes. 

I had let Layla slip away. I had let Dani slip away. And now, when I was finally trying to fix things, it was too late.

I sucked in a deep breath, my voice hoarse as I said…

"Dani, you were never just a tech guy to me. You were my friend. My brother." I clenched my jaw, shaking my head. 

"I failed you. I should’ve fought harder for you, just like I should’ve fought harder for Layla. But I didn’t. And I hate myself for it."

Dani looked away, his jaw tightening.
