Chapter 124
Maxine’s POV
I raised the nylon back of stuff I had bought. "I brought you a few things." I said, holding it out to her.
Nadia took it from me and looked into it. "You didn't have to. Thank you." She smiled. "Have a seat." She gestured.
I took a seat on the quaint little couch, crossing my hand in front of me, and on my thighs.
"I'll make you tea. Give me a few minutes." Nadia said as she began to boil water.
We sat down over cups of steaming tea, catching up on everything that had happened since we last saw each other and after we lost our job.
"Maxine, I can't thank you enough for being there that day," Nadia said softly, her voice tinged with gratitude.
I reached out and squeezed her hand. "I'm just glad you're okay, Nadia. How are you feeling now?"
She took a deep breath. "Physically, I'm healing. But mentally, it's been rough. I keep replaying the accident in my mind. And Brody was hurt too."
