Chapter 3
A family of men with hidden priorities is what the men in her family consider a man for her.
She is not pleased with how things have gone for her; she did not anticipate things going that smoothly with him, and she hopes he does not change his mind.
An old businessman is the most dangerous man around her, but she has no option but to do this for the company. Not just a businessman, but someone who makes capital out of his business by doing illegal dealings.
She hopes he will stick to the agreement of the contract and leave after giving birth to the family heir, but what she keeps forgetting is that the child she will give birth to will be for both families and not the Cannon family alone.
She went to her mother's villa to prepare for the Luciano family's dinner party. She received a late invitation from Uncle Charles, who invited her to join him at the dinner party.
The Luciano family comes together for parties that mostly have people from the business world. They are all interested in knowing how a family of three men can run a business in banking, which is mostly run by foreigners.
When she saw the invitation, she was not going to let it pass by because she needed to find a business partner for her new fashion venture, and the best place to hear different views from businessmen and women is on such an occasion, and she knew one of the industry's most important businessmen would be at the Luciano family dinner party.
Charles enters the villa earlier than usual since he doesn't want Thelma to prevent her daughter from attending the party with him. He is well aware that the woman is a bad omen. He'll have to persuade his brothers to let her leave the company sooner.
She is the first to discover him as he walks inside the villa: "Uncle Charles, you are early or my watch is broken." As she guides her uncle to a seat, she says, but he smirks, knowing very well that she wants to provoke him.
"I was just passing by and thought I'd come to pick you up early so that we don’t arrive late. I hope that’s okay." As he settles into his seat on the couch, he says. "It’s fine by me; give me a few minutes to get ready." She says this as she heads upstairs to take a quick shower.
Thelma is the designer behind her daughter's fashion choices, and she settles for an outfit that her mother has chosen for her. Before she married James, she was a designer, and because James transformed her into the lady she is now because of the image the two brothers painted on her from the outside, they don't want to accept her as one of them, forgetting that she is the company's designer.
She calls her secretary, who she had planned to accompany her; she knows her uncle is the finest of the two uncles, but she doesn't have anything to talk about with him.
He used to tutor her when she was younger, yet they both exude a powerful aura that is felt by both of them and anyone around them. He says, "You look wonderful, my daughter."
"Thank you, uncle," she says, her face as straight as ever. His secretary appears to be following Charles into the house, which surprises him; he had not expected her to attend the party, but there is nothing he can do.
They leave the estate and go to the Luciano Villa, where the city's notable people throw parties and hold business meetings. As they approach the villa, they notice a large number of men from the business group.
Each person is eager to meet new people and build their business, and each person who approaches you is eager to go into business with you. As they walk in, they are greeted by several eyes from every direction. Thama is the family's beauty and a business beauty; she always stands out with her beauty on every occasion.
Every family in the city understands that marrying their son to the city's most prominent lady will be the most significant achievement that will help their family flourish, but the news of her and Luciano has already reached the ears of many.
Everyone is perplexed as to why they chose the old man, a man far older than she, who has no interest in women but his fellow males.
As she and Charles walk in, they greet passersby on their way to work, leaving everyone chattering about her as they go. One of the ladies comments, "No wonder she's chilly; she doesn't have a choice when it comes to men of her age." Another lady comments, making the woman with whom she's standing giggle.
She is aware that others are gossiping about her and laughing at her, but if keeping the company and running it are more important to her, she will not let what they are saying bother her.
She approaches one of the largest fashion firm founders to speak with him about fashion, but the topic quickly devolves into her marriage to the Luciano family.
"Thank you for your time, Mr. Fernando," she says as she walks away from the man to go find her secretary. She is hesitant to discuss her wedding plans with anyone other than her mother.
A man on the stairwell wearing dark black glasses stares at her from a distance as she greets others and makes her way to her secretary.
His face and name are unknown because he is hiding. It appears that the man is hiding from the people around him, but his gaze is fixed solely on her.
Cirino arrives later, accompanied by his half-brother, and the visitors watch as he walks to the front and offers his welcome comments. Tobias travels to Thama. He welcomes her with a friendly "Hello, Miss Thama; we meet again."
"Hello, Mr. Luciano," she says, smiling. "Are you having fun?" He goes on to ask her a question, to which she does not respond. She says, "Fine, I guess," as if she doesn't want to stick around anymore.
Tobias observes her unease but doesn't say much about it; instead, he greets her secretary, who is seated next to her, and ends up speaking with her.
The audience applauds and laughs as Cirino concludes his speech with a few words. As he walks to her with Charles by his side, Charles keeps talking in his ear, discussing things with him.
"I wasn't expecting to see you here." He says this as he glances at her, who appears to be uncomfortable.Charles answers, "I came with her; she is my guest."Cirino informs Charles, "I want to have a chat with you in my office," with a furious expression on his face and wrath in his voice.
