Chapter 20

Kaito hadn’t left the room since he got upset with Imani. He spent the time scrolling through his Instagram news feed after texting his mom. They were going to be here in a week.

There was a knock on the door and he glanced at it, huffing and looking back at his phone screen.

“Kaito?” Akiko’s voice called out to him and he sat up, placing his phone on the bed. “Kaito?”

Akiko knocked again and he took fast strides to the door, wondering why she sounded sad.

He opened the door and beheld her sad shiny eyes that brightened up the moment she saw him.

“Kaito!” She opened her arms for him to pick her up and he did, nuzzling his nose around her neck. She squealed, laughing heartily. “Stop it!”

Kaito put her down and she let herself into his room. Just as he was about to close the door, Imani showed up with a coy smile.

He pushed the door in a bid to shut it but she stuck in her leg and squawked.
