Chapter 42. A Getaway

Chaos brewed as fire swept through the town of Rim and beyond. Sounds of howls and cries rent the smoke-filled air. People ran about with lost looks overshadowing the faces, while wolves pranced around, their howls filling the air with panic. Confusion tailed them as they held on tightly to their wolf pups, or the remnants of whatever they could grab from their cottages before it went up in flames. 

That was not the case at the head mage's quarters. Lady Lucia's cottage was exempted from all the mayhem going on, but that did not mean she was not going to use the current situation to her advantage. 

She felt calm as she packed a few of her belongings inside the animal skin tote bag. It was just as well everything was going up in flames because that way - no one would notice her departure.
