Chapter 46. A New Beginning
Kenki was a picture of listlessness and utter dejection as he stood turning this way and that and looking about him wonderingly. A few people walked past him, jostling him in the process. Perhaps, that should have brought him back to himself, but it did the opposite, as he began to walk around in circles.
He stopped his circular motion, only after a few minutes, and walked to the deck where he stood staring out at the churning sea. A memory flashed in his mind and the sea disappeared completely, replaced with a pond. Animals surrounded it in droves, drinking from it and chattering noisily amongst themselves.
He looked away from them and noticed that all around, a short distance away, were thick trees. Recognition bloomed in his chest, and so, smiling, he walked forward but was met with some resistance when he found his way barred with a barricade of wood, the same height as himself, stopping his movement forward.
He stifled the irritation rising inside his throat,
