Summer’s POV
“Are you okay?” Addy’s voice cut through the swirl of white tulle and floral bouquets like a lifeline—I think. She was radiant in her lace wedding dress, every inch the fairytale bride, even with that haphazard platinum bun and the mascara freckles that mapped tears onto her cheeks. Honestly, she looked so happy I almost wanted to punch her. Or maybe hug her. I wasn’t sure.
Was I okay? Ha. The perfect answer would have been yes, of course, Addy—your big day is flawless, life is unicorns and rainbows, yada yada yada. But lying felt… gross. Plus, my heart was doing a tap dance inside my ribs, and not the fun kind. I’d taken off months ago, chasing some half-baked notion of “finding myself,” and right now the only thing I’d found was a big empty plot of land where my self used to be.
