Alpha Kanen’s POV
The fear that had taken on us all finally lifted as the soldiers lowered their weapons.
Elise had done it. She had convinced them to stop the march toward war. The relief I felt was great and wonderful, almost enough to bring me to my knees. We had come so close to the edge, but somehow, against all troubles, we had pulled back.
As I watched the soldiers, their faces slowly softening from hard decisions to quiet relief, I realized that I needed to make things right. There were people who deserved apologies, and I intended to give them the apology.
I turned to Elise first. She had been the one to make the impossible happen. Without her, we would have been marching straight into chaos.
