Jacklin's POV
I could feel the rage bubbling beneath my skin, threatening to spill over. How could she? How could Rose stand there, unshaken, staring me down as if I were nothing more than a nuisance?
Her choice of words burned in my memory, and the more I thought about it, the more furious I became. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. I was the one with power, the one who should put fear in her, yet here I was, leaving like a beaten dog.
“Jacklin, you’re not going to scare us,” she had said, her voice calm and steady. “We won’t let you tear apart what we’ve built.”
Those words echoed in my mind as we kept on challenging ourselves, my fists clenched so tightly my knuckles turned white.
