‘‘What were you trying to do?’’ I yelled at Celine while violently pointing my index finger in her direction. ‘‘You just kissed Jake in front of a lot of people!’’

To my astonishment, Celine displayed a smirk in response to my statement.

‘‘What are you laughing at?’’ I snarled, completely out of control at this point. I couldn't stand looking at her annoying face. ‘‘Everyone knows how shameless you are! Why are you even here in my house in the first place? Who invited you? Get out of my face!’’

‘‘Cynthia... stop!’’ Jake made an attempt to prevent me from continuing, and as I glanced up at him, I couldn't disguise the pain that I felt; it was visible in my eyes.

‘‘Jake…’’ I spoke in a hushed tone, and my voice was shaking. ‘‘Why are you defending her?’’

‘‘I'm not defending her…’’ Jake showed his displeasure with me by clenching his teeth, and I immediately understood why. ‘‘What you’re doing is just so wrong and I’m trying to stop you!’’
