‘‘About what happened at the hotel---’’ I began cautiously, locking the door once we were inside my room.

‘‘No, it’s fine… There’s no need for you to say anything, I know it was a mistake and it’s cool…’’ Cynthia finished distantly.

Despite the fact that she was behaving in a way that gave the impression that she was unaffected, something about her behaviour led me to believe that she didn’t think it was cool.
