‘‘Do you think that somebody was listening to us?’’ I inquired anxiously as fear began to course through my veins.

Jake gave a dismissive shake of his head before rising to his feet and reaching for the bathrobe that was still hanging on the door of the bathroom. ‘‘No, the rooms are soundproofed. You stay here...’’ he covered himself and left the room.
