“Liza!” I slammed my palm against her door, and after a short wait, she opened it, blinking in the harsh sunlight. She was clad in a yellow maternity dress that stopped just above her knees, looking absolutely radiant. A wave of envy hit me; she ran her own business, and even without her baby’s father, she was financially stable thanks to Enzo’s help. She was surrounded by family, while I was there, completely alone and destitute.

“Reese?” she squinted, and I gently pushed her into the house, securing the door behind me as it closed with a resounding thud. “Reese, what happened to you?” she inquired, her eyes widening at the sight of my condition. “Oh my God! Who did this to you? Reese, what the hell is going on?”

My lips trembled as I rushed toward her and enveloped her in a tight embrace, sobbing loudly. “Liza…”

“It’s okay. You’re safe here with me. It’s okay, Reese…” she whispered soothing words into my ear while her palm glided over my back.
