Chapter 89. Resentment

Ariana POV

I froze as I saw her. She looked different. It had been a long time since I had seen her like this. I could tell she had lost some weight, and she looked worn out.

As soon as she saw me, her face lit up with a smile as she came toward me. I made no move as she walked up and hugged me. I knew she came with nothing but trouble. I had my life to figure out, and now she was here again with a fresh dose of chaos.

“My child, look how beautiful you look. You’re glowing,” she complimented me as she hugged me. I didn’t react. For someone who wanted to kill me weeks ago, she was far too nice, and I already hated it.

“What do you want?” I blurted out, and she gave me a soft smile.

“That’s no way to talk to your mother, child,” she teased with a small laugh, and I remained silent.
