Chapter 59. There Might Be a Small Price Change

Calista’s POV

I stood at the counter of the police station, having hurriedly arrived in my eagerness. The officer handed me a plastic bag, and I was shocked to see my belongings inside—items I hadn’t expected to be gone because they were buried in my luggage, including the bag with a pile of money that I had thought was lost.

“Please verify these items and sign here,” the officer instructed, sliding a clipboard toward me.

I stared at the bag, my mind full of confusion. “How was he caught?” I asked, my voice trembling. Despite my unease, I couldn’t hide my excitement about reclaiming my belongings for my new home.

Officer Ramirez, a middle-aged man with a kind face, looked at me sympathetically. “It was a routine traffic stop. When they ran his information, it flagged some outstanding warrants. They searched the vehicle and discovered a random ID. Luckily, I remembered your report about a con artist and contacted the station,” he explained earnestly.
