I pressed my ear to the bedroom door, my heart hammering so loud I was sure it would give me away.

I looked up at him, searching his face for any sign that Darren’s words had gotten to him. “What did he want?”

“To remind me who you belong to.”

The casual way he said it made my stomach twist. “And what did you tell him?”
