The elevator descended in silence, each floor taking me further from my humiliation and closer to my revenge.
I flexed my fingers, still feeling the phantom weight of the gun I’d been forced to drop. Kai Storm thought he’d won tonight. Though his money and his hired muscle made him untouchable.
He was about to learn otherwise.
My phone buzzed as I reached the lobby. Text message from an unknown number, but I recognized the style immediately. My private investigator—the one who’d been tracking Storm’s movements since he appeared at the Grammy ceremony.
Package delivered. Check your email.
I smiled for the first time since leaving that rooftop.
The hotel bar was mostly empty, just a few late-night drinkers nursing expensive whiskey and nursing their failures. I ordered a double scotch and opened my laptop, connecting to the hotel’s secure wifi with credentials that cost me more per month than most people earned.
