I grasped my hands. I couldn’t just sit here! With the threat of war looming, could we have our marking ceremony two days from now? Suddenly, my pup kicked my belly. I took a deep breath and rubbed my stomach. ‘What do you want, my pup? Mommy’s here.’
My pup kicked again. I didn’t understand why, but I felt my pup supported me. Smiling and caressing my stomach, I whispered, “Thank you, sweetheart. Mommy loves you. Yes, everything will be alright.”
When I wanted to go upstairs to rest, there was a bell ringing. I strolled to the front door and opened it. Mimi rushed to the front door, too, but when she saw I was already there, she only smiled at me and returned to the kitchen. It was a teenager at the door.
