Chapter 140
How time flies. It felt like ages ago.
Immediately after they stepped out of the palace, all eyes were on Danika. Passersby stopped to look at her, and others just stood and watched warily. Danika noticed the blatant stares---how couldn’t she when it was obvious?---and they made her uncomfortable. But she was determined to keep her shoulders high and walk with Sally. These people almost killed her two weeks ago, and now they look at her like they were seeing a stranger. She didn’t see the usual malice on their faces. The pure hate they had emitted was gone.
A little girl, who didn’t look older than six years old, walked up to them. The girl hesitantly offered her a gift. Danika stopped and stared at the chocolate in the girl’s outstretched hand. It touched her immensely that this little girl would offer her such a gift. Being lowborn, or less privileged, they barely had enough to eat and sustain themselves. Now, this child offered her the little she had.
