Chapter 110
Ollie POV
The van was so cold. So dark. So empty without Mama.
I pressed my hands over my ears, trying to block out my own screaming, but I couldn’t stop. My throat hurt so bad from yelling, and my chest felt like it was breaking into pieces, but I had to keep screaming. Had to make Mama come back. Had to make that bad man let Mama go.
But Mama didn’t come back.
The screaming turned into crying, and I curled up on the floor of the van where Mama had been sitting, trying to find some warmth from where his body had been. But it was already cold. Everything was cold.
“Mama,” I whimpered, even though no one could hear me anymore. “Mama, please come back. I’m scared. I’m so scared.”
Frank—the bad man who’d been driving—had climbed out of the van too, following Samuel and Mama toward the cabin. I’d watched through the front windshield as they disappeared inside, Mama stumbling because his hands were tied, that horrible man dragging him.
