My phone buzzed for what felt like the hundredth time that morning.
I glanced at the screen without picking it up. Rhodes. Again. This was his seventh call in the past hour, and I’d ignored every single one. Before him, it had been Rafael, then Romeo, then Elena. A constant barrage of concern that I couldn’t handle right now.
I turned the phone face-down on my desk and returned my attention to the contract in front of me. Quarterly projections for our European operations. Normally, this would require careful analysis, multiple reviews, consultation with my brothers. But right now, I just needed it to be done. Needed the distraction of work, of problems that had clear solutions.
