Chapter 201
Lake POV
Another camera. Ollie was still walking. Still heading in what I now realized was the direction of our house.
“Fast forward,” Rhodes said. “See how far we can track him.”
The officer scrolled through. We watched Ollie walk for what must have been twenty minutes. Past houses, past the park, getting closer and closer to our neighborhood.
And then—
“Wait, go back,” I said. “What was that?”
The officer reversed the footage. There—a dark sedan pulling up beside Ollie. The window rolling down.
“No,” I breathed. “No no no, please—”
But then Ollie was getting into the car voluntarily. Getting into the back seat like he knew the driver.
“That’s an Uber,” Rhodes said, leaning closer. “See the sticker on the windshield? Lake, he called an Uber.”
“He’s five years old,” I said hysterically. “How does a five-year-old call an Uber?”
