Chapter 10. The Alpha King Ceremony

Tess sent us all texts that the Barn would be open tomorrow morning but not in the afternoon because she had a big event to get ready for. When I walked into the restaurant before opening time I’d never missed my pink uniform more.

“Can’t believe I missed this place,” I said.

“I missed the tips more. I can’t believe they shut us down for that long,” Mindy said.

She is a foot shorter than me. She always wore the same tight bun and the same black pumps with her pink uniform.

“You think it could happen again?” I asked.

Mindy gave me a pressed smile. “No… I’m sure it won’t.”

Mindy and I went about cleaning tables and windows. Tim arrived and immediately started cursing and bumping pots and pans. I wondered why he didn’t just quit if he was so unhappy here.
