Chapter 41
Ruby’s POV
I tried calling Henry back, but his phone was off. I will try to call again tomorrow, I thought. I felt a wave of fatigue wash over me. I quickly showered and then succumbed to a long, much-needed nap. When I finally stirred awake, it was already thirty minutes past four. I went straight to the kitchen.
Granny was already bustling about, her apron tied neatly around her waist as she prepared for dinner. The rich aroma of herbs filled the air, instantly making my stomach rumble. “Can I help?” I asked, my voice filled with enthusiasm as I stepped into the warm kitchen.
She turned to me, eyebrows raised in a mixture of surprise and curiosity. “You want to help?” she asked slowly, gauging me.
I nodded eagerly. Cooking had always been a bit of a mystery to me. Despite my enthusiastic attempts, I had never quite mastered the art.
“Okay, start peeling the potatoes,” she ordered. I rushed to do that. I struggled with the peeler. Grandma watche
