Chapter 55. The Unexpected Journey

The steam from the bath filled the bathroom. As I stepped out, I wrapped a towel around my waist. The cold tile beneath my feet brought comfort; I'd been trying to get my head straight, forgetting the hurt, the anger, and the lingering hope that refused to die. But it was impossible when everything in this place reminded me of her.

After drying off, I dressed quickly, pulling on the few clothes I had left: a simple black shirt and a pair of worn pants. I ran my fingers through my hair, letting the damp strands fall into place before packing the little I had. The room was already starting to feel too small.
