“Are you okay?”

I looked at Ox. I nodded my head frantically because I didn’t want him to think something was wrong.

“Yes……yes thank you.” I said and lifted the glass of water to my lips. I had intentionally avoided drinking anything colored because I couldn’t know which one was blood and which one wasn’t.

“You can drink your wine Peg. I won’t allow anyone here serve you a glass of blood you can trust me.”

How had he known what I was thinking? I had heard that some powerful vampires could smell fear and even know what one was thinking but I hadn’t imagined that Ox could do that. But then again he was a powerful vampire so….

“And I don’t know what you’re thinking Peg. Calm down……”

“But……..how then do you know……..”

“I’ve dealt with a lot of people in my life. And you are so obvious. It’s so easy to know when you’re scared or tense or worried or thinking of leaving.”
