Chapter 148
“What did you do?”
John heard his friend's question, but another scream from Helena cut through the air like an arrow shot straight to his heart. He saw his hands tremble, his heart racing uncontrollably; his whole body felt the impact of that painful scream. The smell of blood filled his nostrils. He had already sensed it when he got close to the stairs, but now it was stronger.
This made him descend the first steps, until he felt Sallow's hands on his shoulders. He squeezed and tried to turn him.
“This isn’t for males, John; you’re not thinking straight because of the screams.”
John shook off his grip and exclaimed irritably.
“This isn’t for males? My dear friend, maybe you’re the one not thinking straight. I put her in this painful situation; it’s only right that I hold her hand.”
The commander continued to descend the stair
