Now that his wife is back, everything has become more complicated. His hold on the title—something I have been working for years to destabilize—will be harder to challenge. If the elders take one good look at her and find her impressive, then I’m finished.

No, I can’t afford that.

I have to act fast and act smart. There’s no time to waste, not even a second.

“Come in, Sinclair,” I called, my voice echoing through the room.

He hurried in almost immediately. “Alpha Klaus,” he greeted, head bowed low like the useless mutt he is. “I’m afraid… it all failed. The assassin sent didn’t return, and no report was brought back.”

Pathetic.
