Chapter 34. Can I Have You?

Emily's POV

"Berton?" I called, switching the doorknob slowly. I could hear a sound from the other side of the door which meant that he was no longer in pain. I stepped into the room and it was a bit dim.

My gaze fell on the bed that he was lying on, and he was silent with his eyes closed. Was he sleeping? Was he still in pain? I moved closer towards him on the bed, taking off my jacket. I threw it aside and then took off my shoes before crawling on the bed.

"Berton, are you sleeping? How do you feel?" I asked, touching his shoulder and placing my head on his chest to hear his heartbeat, but his hand suddenly snaked around my waist, pulling me closer to him.

"Berton, are you awake?" I lifted my head up to look at him, but his eyes were still closed, and his breathing was normal. I moved my face closer to his and pressed my palm against his face to feel the warmth of it.

I parted my lips to speak. However, his hand tigh
