Chapter 28. The Highlord

HIGHLORD’S POV

"What do you mean they escaped? Find them!" I shouted to the guards. They both cringed at my outburst, I wanted them to know that I was angry; pissed even.

Tonight didn't go according to plan. I thought the demon wolf would have accompanied Gerard. We programmed those trapped chairs especially for him. It was his blood we needed to nourish the strength of my minions, but instead, he sent that human, Gerard Smith to come alone - well, and that witch.

Which reminded me, I had to find out who she was since I didn't remember seeing her before.

"We sent patrols in the forest, we are waiting for word from them as we speak, sir," one of the guards said. 

"This pack is smarter than any I've ever dealt with before - they'll expect us to assume they left in the woods. What about patrols on the road - did you send out any?"

They lowered their heads. "No, sir - we didn't expect we would need to -"

"What are you still doing here then?
