Giselle’s POV

“Where have you been?”

I knew he would use the back door, so I stayed on one of the chairs in the courtyard garden and waited for him. I glanced down at my wristwatch, and it was already two in the middle of the night.

He stopped, eyes widening, surprised. In one of his hands was a cigarette. I had never seen him smoke before. But I guess five years was enough to change a person.

He looked down at his cigarette. Flustered that I noticed what was in his hand, he immediately threw it on the ground and stepped on it. Caden averted his eyes from me and shoved his hands in his pocket. He seemed—nervous. Why was he nervous?
