Nate's POV

I would have laughed at my poor attempt to come to her rescue if it had been someone else.

The men’s eyes widened as soon as they saw me. Their eyes went from me to Layla, who stood there, looking at me as if she was unimpressed.

“We’re sorry, Alpha. We had no idea....”

“Just walk away.”

They ran off immediately, leaving me in the alley with Layla and the woman who cradled her baby in her arms. I knew where she belonged immediately.

“Why are you still here?”

She looked at me with frightened eyes as she tried to run away, but Layla stopped her from moving.

“You will let her go just like that without investigating what actually happened?”

I looked at her with a raised eyebrow. That's how things are done in this pack, and it has been like this for a long time.
